What About the Weather

Some people say that when we run out of topics to discuss, we bring up the weather!.. As you are talking about your family or business you may find yourself out of things to say. That's when you look up at the sky or notice the breeze that has picked up in the last hour or so. You then add to your dying conversation with, "It's really nice out here today isn't it!?" "The sky is so blue today." "I can't wait till spring is here!!" "I just want to LIVE outside," and "It's a beautiful day don't you think!?"
When I'm talking with one of my friends and they interrupt me with a comment about the weather, it makes me think that what I had to say must have been very uninteresting. But, maybe the weather means a lot to them....a certain season may bring back a special memory for them....Just because they mentioned the weather doesn't necessarily mean that they are thinking about the weather, but of something that the weather reminded them of. Maybe they really are thankful for a nice day. But, here in California, every day is a nice day. The weather doesn't change drastically and we don't have a whole lot of severe weather conditions. We don't have to make plans around the weather, because we can just count on it being agreeable with whatever plans we want to make.
Now I said that, but I can't help but think of what a beautiful day it is today. God has done such a wonderful job of creating today. I look at everything....the freshness of the air to the unique individuality of every blossom. When I think of the weather, I can't help but think of God. He's the creator of all, the beginning of everything, and the originator of everything we have. It's good and right that we stop and consider the weather. What better conditions could God have created for us to live in? The beauty of this earth is nothing less then a miracle. Why not speak of God's creation and this miracle that we live in? It can only bring us closer to Him as we observe the weather, and His love towards us, through the weather.

Genesis 1:11-18

11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.

14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

  1. I Like your perspective on the weather being the default mode of a dying conversation. Also, very fitting scripture.
