Independance

This is my definition of independence - When someone feels capable of accomplishing things on their own. Often refuses help from people because they would rather do it alone. Also not influenced by others, and often thinks and acts just as themselves.

I have often asked myself, " How much should I do on my own? How much should I rely on others to help me out? When do I know I need help and when do I know that I am able to do things on my own?

We learn by watching other people. I learn something easiest if I'm taught by watching someone perform the actual art I'm wanting to learn. We start becoming independent as a little kid. We slowly learn how to do things on our own. We learn to crawl, then walk, so we can get places by ourselves. We learn to eat by our selves. We learn to tie our shoes, brush our teeth, and comb our hair.  We learn to read and write. We are starting to become our own person and we don't rely on our parents as much. I remember the first time I bought something by myself with my own money! I was kind of scared, but after the guy gave me my gum I was so proud of myself! We learn to drive so we can go places by ourselves. I could list a lot more things that we learn so we can accomplish things by ourselves, but I want to explain something else.

There comes a time in our life where we choose to let people help us or assist us in things we've learned to do independently. I normally want to get things done as fast and as easy as possible. What I've learned is that I need someone that I can go to if I need help with anything. I don't need someone to help me with things I'm perfectly capable of doing on my own. But, I need some support or a little guidance sometimes. There are times when I need to be corrected for my bad actions. I also need to be reminded of things. God created us in a way that we need each other. We need to know that we are not alone and that others share the same burdens and temptations that we do.

Numbers 11:17...I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take some of the power of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them. They will share the burden of the people with you so that you will not have to carry it alone.
