God, Creation, and the Stars
Here's a little somethin I wrote that intrigued me..... Many sientists claim that the universe developed on it's own by a process called cosmic evolution. Some scientists who believe in cosmic evolution also claim that God used this process to make the universe. Some of these scientists and other Christian leaders have even called this process of cosmic evolution the “creation” of the universe. However, “creation” by cosmic evolution is not biblical creation at all. The Bible in Genesis 1:1 states, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” The word “creation” in Genesis 1:1 is the translation of a Hebrew word which means “creation out of nothing.” The creation of the universe was a supernatural act. It was an event of creation, not a process of evolution.
There are millions and trillions of stars in the universe. Stars have lives. They are born, then die. Stars are blazing nuclear inferno like the Sun, but are seemingly dimmed to a gentle glimmer by the immense distance. How can astronomers see objects millions or billions of light-years away if the universe is only a few thousand years old? There is evidence that the speed of light was much higher in the past. God not only created the stars themselves, but also filled space with their light, so that Adam and Eve and their children saw the heavens filled with stars. Our ancestors were not very interested in the physical nature of the stars. They used the stars in practical ways, to tell the time at night and the season of the year, to work out the direction of north, and to find their latitude on Earth. God describes the creation of all the stars in only one phrase. The last part of Genesis 1:16 says, “He made the stars also.“ The creation of the earth and its life takes up nearly all the first chapter of Genesis. Evidently, God considers the earth more important than all the stars.
Stars make the night sky beautiful. They show us that there can be light amidst the darkness. I like to think of stars as a symbol of God’s love. Even though we live in a world of darkness, He will always be there to show us the truth and light. Jeremiah 31:37 says,"Thus saith the Lord; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the Lord." There is no possible way for man to measure the heavens or the foundations of the earth searched out. That's God's way of telling us that his love and guidance for His children is infinite. He will never leave us. It is us in our humaness that walk away from God and all He has to offer. Everywhere we look, God is pointing us toward the truth. The north star for instance, is used to find direction. In a spiritual sense, God shows us the way. His light reveals the path for us to walk. The sun is a star. God’s son was sent to earth to make a way of escape and bring salvation. When the wise men were searching for the little King, God placed a star above the inn where the young child lay. There are other spiritual applications we could find that could involve stars. I have been interested with them and enjoyed researching and studying them.
